Retrofitting public spaces in intelligent Mediterranean Cities

The project deals with the implementation of state-of-the-art methods for improving technical studies in order to provide cost-effective retrofitting measures in public buildings and open spaces. These methods will be utilized so that a new methodology of techno-economical studies will be formulated and applied in public spaces in the urban environment. The methodology will be tested by performing pilot studies for valuating living conditions (comfort, air quality) and energy consumption and for suggesting cost-efficient measures to improve air quality and thermal comfort, while minimizing energy consumption, in public buildings and open spaces in a city level. The experimentation should be representative of the diversity of public-spaces typologies in the Mediterranean region. Experimentation, will, for that reason, be conducted simultaneously in 5 countries: Greece, Spain, France, Italy and Croatia. These countries have diverse climates and building and open spaces typologies.
