Resumen – Summary

Allanar el camino para la descarbonización de los edificios de la Unión Europea

El parque inmobiliario de la Unión Europea (UE) es relativamente antiguo. La mitad de las viviendas de la mayoría de los países de la UE se edificaron antes de 1970 y de las primeras normativas térmicas. Por ello es importante mejorar la eficacia energética de la envolvente del edificio, es decir, la barrera física que separa su interior del entorno exterior no acondicionado. El proyecto INFINITE, financiado con fondos europeos, allanará el camino para la descarbonización del parque inmobiliario de la UE al favorecer la adopción de tecnologías integrales e industrializadas de la envolvente de edificios por parte del mercado. El método de INFINITE para la renovación en profundidad de edificios reducirá los costes y el tiempo necesarios y se centrará en el ciclo de vida y el diseño para el montaje y desmontaje, incluido el valor residual al final de la vida útil, así como los residuos de construcción y demolición.

Objetivo

INFINITE tiene como objetivo aumentar la penetración en el mercado de los kits de envolvente de edificios integrales industrializados para la renovación profunda, como un enfoque competitivo, confiable, aceptado por las partes interesadas y basado en el ciclo de vida sostenible que contribuye a la descarbonización del parque de edificios de la UE. INFINITE trabajará para reducir la brecha hacia la adopción total de un enfoque de renovación industrializado desarrollando un conjunto de herramientas multiusuario y multidisciplinarias, y tecnologías de envolvente industrializadas todo en uno, basadas en negocios sólidos, que satisfagan los requisitos del lado de la demanda, manteniendo el foco en los usuarios finales y todas las partes interesadas en la cadena de valor. Los impulsores del desarrollo de INFINITE son:

– reducción de costes y tiempos,

– perspectiva del ciclo de vida,

– diseño para montaje y desmontaje, considerando el valor residual al final de la vida útil y los temas de Construcción-Demolición-Residuos,

– adopción de materiales de bajo impacto en carbono,

– enfoque centrado en las partes interesadas para asegurar la aceptación del concepto. Además, INFINITE establecerá un centro de conocimiento estructurado abierto y una red organizada de entidades como difusión basada en hechos concretos, para la demostración del acoplamiento del enfoque digital e industrializado.

Gracias a INFINITE, el sector de la construcción de la UE puede tener la oportunidad de avanzar hacia una descarbonización duradera del parque de edificios, aprovechando las ventajas del “Renovation 4.0” (industrialización + digitalización) como nueva generación de proceso de renovación industrializado. Las tecnologías, herramientas y modelos de negocio innovadores sustentados impactarán en toda la cadena de valor, pudiendo desencadenar la activación del mercado de renovación profunda. Los casos de demostración pueden validar el enfoque “Renovation 4.0” mencionado, mientras que el consorcio ya tiene canales comerciales bien establecidos en la UE que facilitarán un amplio potencial de replicación y una explotación eficaz de los resultados.


 

Paving the way for the decarbonisation of EU buildings

The EU’s building stock is relatively old. Half of all homes in most EU countries were built pre-1970 and before the first thermal regulations. This is why upgrading the energy efficiency of the building envelope – the physical barrier between indoor and unconditioned environment – is important. The EU-funded INFINITE project will pave the way for the decarbonisation of the EU building stock by facilitating the uptake of all-in-one industrialised envelope technologies by the market. INFINITE’s approach for deep renovation of buildings will result in both cost and time reduction, with attention to the life cycle perspective and the design for assembly and disassembly, including end-of-life residual value as well as construction and demolition waste.

Objective

INFINITE aims at increasing the market penetration of industrialized all-in building envelope kits for the deep renovation, as competitive, reliable, stakeholders-accepted and life-cycle-based sustainable approach contributing to decarbonization of the EU building stock. INFINITE will work to narrow the gap towards the full adoption of an industrialized renovation approach developing a set of multi-user and multi-disciplinary tools, and all-in-one industrialised envelope technologies, based on robust business, meeting the demand side requirements, by keeping the focus on final users and all the stakeholders in the value-chain. The INFINITE development drivers are:

– cost and timing reduction,

– Life Cycle perspective,

– design for assembly and disassembly, considering end-of-life residual value and the Construction-Demolition-Waste topics,

– low carbon impact materials adoption,

– stakeholders-centered approach to assure concept acceptance. Moreover, INFINITE will setup an open structured knowledge hub and an organized network of entities as hard-facts based dissemination, for the demonstration of the coupling of digital and industrialised approach.

Thanks to INFINITE, EU construction sector can take the chance to move forward towards a long-lasting decarbonisation of the building stock, exploiting the advantages of the “Renovation4.0” (industrialisation + digitalisation) as new generation of industrialised renovation process. The underpinned ground-breaking technologies, tools and business models, will impact the whole value-chain, being able to trigger the deep renovation market activation. Demo-cases can validate the mentioned Renovation4.0 approach, while the consortium already well-established commercial channels in EU that will facilitate an extensive replication potential and effective results exploitation.
